YOGA SUTRA 1.1
NOW BEGINS THE PRACTICE OF YOGA.
YOGA: means “union, balance, and a harmonious state of mind; bridging the different aspects of life; connecting the individual consciousness with supreme consciousness; the union of the two—the lover and the beloved, the seeker and God, Shiva and Shakti, ida and pingala, the sun and moon, active and passive” (Pandit Rajmani Tigunait).
NOW (ATHA): a blessing; “a term indicating auspicious beginning. It implies that there has been preparation for an auspicious and fruitful journey” (Pandit Rajmani Tigunait).
YOU ARE READY NOW. The first word in the ancient text of yoga, the Yoga Sutras of the Sage Patanjali, is a blessing: Atha. It is said that simply by hearing or reading the word Atha, you are ready. There is nothing about the way you are that needs to change in order to begin the practice of yoga. No weight to lose, clothes to buy or goals to acheive. You are ready now. At YOGA NOW, we live the blessing of Atha by meeting everyone where they are. It does not matter your age, flexibility level, gender, race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, body shape or size, or religion. All are welcome. And now there are more reasons than ever to study the practice of yoga: stress reduction, disease prevention, pain management, inner peace – the research continues to show what the sages have known for thousands of years. Do not wait to transform your life. #doyoganow
