There are many benefits to Therapeutic Yoga. With the support of a Certified Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapy, you as the client will practice postures, breathing exercises, meditation, guided imagery and relaxation to support mental and physical health. Your teacher will complete an intake form on your first visit so you can share how you would like yoga to support you. Your session is customized to your specific needs in order to encourage balance and well-being.
Research shows that the practice of yoga is among the most effective complementary methods to address several common ailments such as chronic pain (including back pain, sciatica, headaches, or general pain), depression/anxiety, stress, heart disease, osteoporosis, and obesity. The holistic focus of the therapeutic elements of yoga encourages the integration of mind, body, and spirit.
Therapeutic Yoga empowers individuals to take responsibility for their own health. Therefore, therapeutic yoga comes in three sessions. SOMATICS & YOGA
Somatics are small movement exercises designed by Thomas Hanna, a philosopher and yoga teacher who coined the term “sensory motor amnesia” or the bodies ability to “forget” how to move. Through a series of gentle and accessible movements, called the Daily Cat Stretch, in combination with simple yoga postures, clients enjoy increased range of motion, stability, strength, and flexibility. This practice is ideal for those working with chronic pain, stiffness and soreness, or recovery from injury. The initial session is 90 minutes so the yoga teacher can learn your hopes for the session and examine your movement. Additional sessions are 60 minutes.
Private Yoga sessions are a wonderful way to refine your personal yoga practice. By working with a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher, you will receive a customized and private yoga session, tailored to your needs. Many clients seek a private session to refine their yoga asana practice, allowing them to ask questions and try new ways of practicing in order to best accommodate their needs. Other clients seek support with breathing, mobility, strength, stress-reduction, or lessening of chronic pain. YOGA NOW private yoga teachers see clients in their homes, places of business, or at the YOGA NOW private yoga room.
