Omaha Yoga and Bodywork Center

Hints and Information

When you begin a new program of movement, you may experience sensations that are different from what you normally notice. Please take this opportunity to tune into your own body and if you feel pain, do less! It may take a few classes (and some home practice) before you are able to understand your limitations. In Yoga we work with our edges, gently expanding your edges as the body allows. When you complete a session you may feel relaxed, energized, balanced, light and more spacious.

With conscious awareness, the practice of Yoga improves strength and flexibility, tones the organ systems, releases toxins, strengthens the immune system, and quiets the nervous system; bringing balance, awareness and harmony.

Some things to be mindful about:

  • * Let your teacher know of any health concerns you have.
  • *Practice on an empty stomach. Something light before class can be helpful to hold your hunger.
  • *Breath in and out through the nose whenever possible.
  • *Go slow and pay attention to what you feel.
  • *Stay within your comfort zone when practicing postures. It may take time to find what feels comfortable, so be gentle with your self.
  • *Keep the eyes open — soft and relaxed.
  • *Observe your experience in the pose without judgment. It’s ok to be where you are.
  • *Women should avoid inversions during menstruation (this means any posture where the pelvis is higher than the head).
  • *Feel free to ask questions.
